One Shot Magazine gives every writer a single opportunity to submit the poem that matters most. One submission. One poem. One shot. Forever.
Don’t submit to us more than once. Don’t double back with a pseudonym. We’ll know.
We seek work that feels inevitable, alive, and crafted with care, whether it moves through humor, strangeness, intensity, or restraint. What matters is that the poem knows what it’s doing. Send the poem that best represents you.
We’re an annual publication. Each year, we read submissions closely and select ten poems for publication in our print issue and online archive.
To submit, email one poem as a .docx or PDF to oneshotmagazine.lit@gmail.com. Submissions are open November 1 through July 1 each year, with results announced shortly thereafter.

If accepted, you grant us First North American Serial Rights. All rights revert to you after publication.
If your poem appears elsewhere, please credit One Shot Magazine as its first home.
One Shot is a print and online magazine. All accepted work will appear in our annual print issue and our online archive.
Accepted contributors are initiated into the super-ultra-mega-secret One Shot Society.
Simultaneous submissions are expected. Just email us if your piece is accepted elsewhere.
